SMF-5mkIII is a new version of the highly
appreciated SMF-5.
It is an extremely low-noise microphone amplifier
intended for high-end recording. SMF-5 has two
parallel and separate channels. This version has a
further reduced noise level, wide power supply
voltage range and a headphones output.
SMF-5mkIII is a microphone amplifier with ultra low
noise level. It is intended for high-end recordings with
high resolution.
Each input has a top-of-the-line audio transformer by
Lundahl. With this transformer the low-frequency
distortion is negligible while frequency range is
extended down to 5 Hz.
Harmonic distortion is down to 0.006% @ 1 kHz and
+12 dBu output with 30 dB gain.
The input referred noise level is -131 dBu with a low-Z
source.
Gain may be individually set for each channel. Basic
gain is selected with a toggle switch for 30 or 50 dB.
Additional gain and fine adjustment is controlled by a
potentiometer for a maximum of +20 dB. Total gain is
30 to 70 dB from input to the balanced XLR output.
There is also a headphones output that will double as
unbalanced output.
Phantom power, 48 V may be selected by a toggle
switch on the front panel.
Power supply is by a separate mains adapter. Any
voltage in the range 10 - 35 VDC will do.
In contrast to the previous version of SMF-5 this
version will not run from internal battery but the wide
input voltage range offers a choice of different external
battery types to be used. The DC input is fully isolated
from the amplifier.
SMF-5mkIII is housed in an EMC shielded case.
An optional carrying case, made by PortaBrace, is
available.
